Going all-in on myself

Hi Indie Hackers! I'm Sonny and I'm new here...

I always knew it would take an extraordinary opportunity to get me to leave Codecademy. Almost 5 dog years later, that opportunity has come.

I'm going all-in on myself and spending the next 12 months (minimum) building things that I’ve been wanting to build.

I will share more about what they are in two weeks!

Please follow me on Twitter/TikTok (@sonnynomnom) to see me build in public.

LFG. 🚀🚀🚀

    You've got this Sonny 🙌

Sounds like you're ready to play the long game. It took me 16 months after quitting my job to make my first dollar. From there, it was only another 6 months to replace my old salary.

Very keen to see an update from you along the journey.

    1. 2

Appreciate the perspective! That's great to know. And will update for sure~

    2. 1

So great to see another IH OG get to the point they can replace their salary. Congratulations Lachlan!

Welcome to the indie dev club.

My quick piece of advice: Don't let the downs keep you down.

    Build, share, fail, learn, repeat.

    1. 1

Appreciate it! Will remember this. 🙏

  3. 3

Cool pic, where are you located?

    1. 1

I think I've stayed at that same cabin. Unless it's his house, then I haven't stayed there.

      1. 1

Haha is it an A-frame in Kerhonkson, New York?

        @Denis_Shatalin I'm based in Brooklyn!

  4. 3

We are with you. Keep us posted on your progress.

    1. 1

      Damn, felt that one. 🤙

  5. 2

Excited for you! Looking forward to your stories!

  6. 2

Remember, when people say "you can't do it", they talk about themselves. Let's go Sonny

    1. 1

DANG. I'll remember that one. 🤙

  7. 2

You've got this @sonnynomnom ! Rooting for you all the way

  8. 2

Good luck! And dig the A-frame / woods :)

  9. 2

    Good luck Sonny! 🔥🔥🔥

What market are you aiming to hack around?

    1. 1

All consumer-based. Will share deets next week~

  10. 2

    Followed you on twitter!

Excited to follow the journey, really curious to see people that are proven on a tech context start out and go bootstrap on their own.

    Much luck!

    1. 2

Appreciate it! Hope to not disappoint.

      1. 1

Most of the reward is in the process, my friend! Trying something as bold is already a huge win.

  11. 2

Awesome, good luck Sonny! If you need a payments & sales tax solution, we will be excited to support you at getrevin.com!

Congrats Sonny! I like your tweet about not going to a Faang company. I did 5+ years at Amazon and still struggling with burnout a year after leaving so the effects are real!

I was interested in your thoughts on using code academy for learning to code and if you have any tips on how you see people learning best after your experience working in edtech?

P.s. is that your cabin? I always wanted to build an A frame like that.

    1. 1

Dannng... yeah the burnout is real. Hope you are fully recharged sooner or later. 👊

I am actually building the learn to code platform that I always dreamed of called Codédex. Will circle back and share the link hopefully next week!

I think the best way to learn is to have self-paced learning, cohorts, AND an ongoing inclusive community. Right now most EdTech companies only have one or at most two of them. The first one that figures out all three will be pretty crazy.

      Nope, an Airbnb!

  13. 2

Welcome! And good luck Sonny, we're all rooting for ya.

    1. 1

      Appreciate it, for real.

    1. 1

      Daniel!!!!!!!!! 🔥

  14. 1

LFG, I hope I can start my journey soon! Keep us posted!

    1. 1

      You will! And sounds good~

  15. 1

    Hope you crush it!

  16. 1

Sounds great Sonny! Exciting times with plenty of adventures ahead I'm sure. Best of luck.

    Let's go Sonny 🔥🔥

Nice to meet you man 👋

I'm an indie developer who struggled so much to start building projects on my own - from scratch - and getting out of tutorial hell and hey because of hanging out with other indie devs and creators on Twitter and see them building in public too and launching their own products and SaaS I could finally build a side project MVP for the first time from start to finish on my own and I launched it on May 6th 2022 🚀

    🎉MovyDick🎉 - a movie/show recommendation app

    How cool is that? 😃

Let's connect on Twitter and get to know each other: @TheAmineAouragh 😜

That's what's up, @AmineAouragh. The best way to learn is to definitely build personal projects instead of getting stuck in YouTube/blog tutorials. Gotta get those reps in. Followed!

      1. 1

        That's exactly IT 💪

    LFG 🚀

Excited to read about your journey!
