Best (accurate) tool to find the number of sessions of any website - SEMrush vs SimilarWeb vs Ubersuggest

There are many tools for this, but you don't know which one is the most accurate, right? 🤔

Whether you want to spy or to analyze your competitors, there are a couple of handy tools, the most well-known (and affordable) are SEMrush, SimilarWeb, and Ubersuggest (+Ahrefs and many more).

This research is not a guestimate, it's based on numbers (true website traffic) from 13 websites that have shared their Google Analytics data.

Although I can't disclose the domains, I got the number straight from their GA accounts and compared them with SEMrush, SimilarWeb, and Ubersuggest.

The goal - to find out which one can show the true number of sessions a website has.

Best and most accurate tool to find the number of sessions of any website

TL;DR you won't believe it but it's SimilarWeb 👀
Although SimilarWeb tracks only websites with at least tens of thousands of sessions per month, for those ones, the number of sessions is pretty damn close to reality.

👉 Here is the summary:

  • SimilarWeb is off by 46% (it shows more traffic than the website actually gets)
  • SEMrush is off by roughly -86% (it shows less traffic than the website actually gets)
  • Ubersuggest is off by -221% (here I've compared only the organic traffic, as Ubersuggest shows only organic)

A pleasant surprise is also how good these tools are at analyzing the traffic sources. SEMrush is doing the best job here, with SimilarWeb being way off and Ubersuggest tracking only the organic search.

Nice, really great insights. Do you know if Similarweb can provide more accurate data if you go with their paid subscription? same question for Semrush

Also, can you please share the link to the airtable file? thank you

I'm using a paid subscription both for Semrush and Ubersuggest and I'm not seeing differences in this regard. Although Semrush can get REALLY expensive if you enable all their databases.

for Similarweb I'm not sure, I'm only using their free reports
