Looking to break out and do my own thing. Where have all the opportunities gone!?

Hey everyone,

I've been thinking about starting my own business for a while. Something I can hack on the side and then hopefully turn into a real thing over time.

At first, I was trying to come up with ideas to start my own SAAS but couldn't think of any. Now, I'm wondering if there are actually opportunities to build on top of existing SAAS platforms that are taking off? Are there any app stores out there that are gathering momentum? Stripe apps? Shopify apps?

Anyone with insights on whether there's any momentum behind some of these app stores and whether they're worthwhile?

How do you go about finding ideas in that ecosystem? Any tips?

        No idea. sorry mate

Man, so many opportunities. Just look at the reviews of what exists currently (go to Capterra for example) and aggregate all the negative feedback in a market. Search for common themes (the "gaps") and then create a super streamlined offering that services just that gap.

Opportunities are everywhere. I feel that the key for you breaking out would be to learn from the 'mistakes' or actions from your main competitors and use it as a playbook to improve on!

SaaS or even shopify apps are very vague topics and these businesses will always work. If I can give you two little tips:

    • Take inspiration from saas that already work but are still early.
    • Create saas that can make money for the users, or simply make your saas indispensable for their business.

    Good luck !

Notion.so? Slack? Problem is still needing to build something and then seeing if people like it, which I don't like doing too much. I like the idea of validation of some sort before starting.

Hey, I find microsaasidea.com by @upenv to be the best resource for exactly this! Each newsletter covers multiple ideas around a niche and the content is brilliant.

Hard to say. When people are making money, they're often quiet. Then once the opportunity is definitely gone, they're like, "back in the day we were banking so much off that trend". If you can find someone to tell you something that's currently making money, that's great.

I know the Shopify app store cut the commissions to zero for the first million of developer earnings. If that tells you anything. All these app stores want/need developers. It's great for the parent company - question is how great is it for the developers?

This is the exact reason I built the Micro SaaS HQ ecosystem for Micro SaaS builders.

It comes with Micro SaaS Ideas newsletter, Community, Deep-dive reports across various niches, Founder insights from hundreds of founders.

Very cool. If you don't mind my asking, of the 500 or so people in the paid community, how many do you think are now running a profitable microSAAS?

We have people in all phases and that's the purpose of this community. But to answer your question, we have many builders running profitable products.

Having said that, we also have people researching on ideas, getting started, getting their first customers too.

Also, some people are not just into Micro SaaS, they are into Amazon FBA, Newsletters and Info products too.
