What kind of traffic Hacker News generates 👇

This year we have been twice on the Hacker News homepage.

In January, when we launched Shuffle, and in the last week with a new feature.

You see these two spikes on the Google Analytics screen.

This time, we got to the 4th position, and it brought us ~12k visitors in just 24hrs.

Usually, we have ~1.2k users daily on our website.

TL;DR Probably the best source of quality insight and traffic for developer tools

Really interesting to see the spike!

    It's amazing. Congrats Dawid.

Congrats Dawid, 10x your regular daily visits is impressive! What would you usually do / use to generate the usual 1.2k daily visits? Is it mostly socials, SEO, paid marketing or maybe a mix?

    1. 2

Thanks! It's mostly SEO. We have the comfort that our editor is based on very-popular open-source technologies that people are looking for.

Super interesting! In terms of actual conversion rate do you think it's quite similar from both sources? Obviously the input numbers vary massively but would be interesting to know solely on a % basis.

Thanks for sharing. May I ask how much money was brought by the trafic ?

I posted results on my LinkedIn:

"Thanks to a very successful post on Hacker News, we surpassed 200,000 PLN in sales this month (~$48,000 / mo). That's an increase of 20% m/m. "

      So the answer is ~$8,000.

Congratulations Dawid! It's very impressive. We are trying to make it work for Raport but no luck so far.

    Two questions:

    • How many sign ups did you get? (if any)
    • What made these posts successful? Do you have a secret recipe or was it just a composition of lucky shot and great product?

      Hey,

      1. We don't have a trial version. You can try the demo without signing in, and a few thousand people did this.
      2. I don't know :) However, we hit the "Show" tab (https://news.ycombinator.com/show) with just two upvotes, and I think it was an acceptance from the moderator. After that, it's a matter of whether users like the entry.

        1. Yes, I've seen you website. I imagine it's quite difficult to convert people in this model but when you do it's a nice profit. But few thousand people trying out demo is impressive.

        2. Ok, hitting the Show tab is great. We didn't manage to do that even with 6 upvotes so it has to be a matter of moderator acceptance.

        Thanks for the answers!
